Thomas Owen Montgomery, 85, of Evington, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2016.
Born on October 14, 1930, he was the son of the late Frank Edward Montgomery and the late Evelyn Waller Montgomery.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Kimberly Anne Montgomery.
Left behind to cherish Thomas’ memory are his daughter, Teresa West and her husband, Carlton, his granddaughter, Allison Hilliard and her husband, Joshua, and his sister, Peggy Thompson and her husband, Jimmy.
Thomas was a dedicated employee for the U.S. Postal Service. He retired in 1985 with 30 years of service. One of his greatest joys in life, though, was mowing the grass. Whether it needed cutting or not, he loved to get on his mower and just go. Thomas will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. A service will follow in the chapel at 2 p.m. with Pastor Gary Vernon officiating. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #16.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 3959 Electric Road, #222, Roanoke, VA 24018.
