Thomas Ray Booth

Thomas Ray Booth, 87, of Concord, Va, died peacefully, June 20, 2012, at Virginia Baptist Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

 Born November 22, 1924, in Concord, Va, he was the son of the late Thomas William Booth and Thelma Drinkard Booth. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth William Booth.

 Mr. Booth graduated from Virginia Tech in 1946. During his college years, he played the trumpet with the Southern Colonels. After college he worked in the grocery business with his grandfather, W. A. Drinkard. He later built Village Fairway Market of which he was owner and operator. In 1968, he began working for Babcock and Wilcox from where he retired after almost twenty years of employment.

 Mr. Booth was a member of Reedy Spring Masonic Lodge for over 50 years where he served as past treasurer for many years. He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and was a former trustee.

 He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 60 years, Deloris Hamlett Booth, his daughter Roberta Booth Clay and her husband David Bryan Clay, Sr., his son William Hunter Booth and his wife Carol Anne Booth. He is also survived by his precious grandchildren, Holly Lynn Clay, Thomas William Booth, David Bryan Clay, Jr. and Sarah Anne Booth.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at 3:00 PM in Concord Cemetery with Pastor Dan Dibble officiating. Family visitation will be held at Bethlehem United Methodist Church following the service. The family will receive friends at the home of David and Roberta Clay.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 42 Phoebe Pond Road, Concord VA 24538.
