Thomas Richard Golden, Dds

Thomas “Tom” R. Golden, 85, of Elon-Monroe, Amherst County, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2021 at his home, in the presence of his wife, children and beloved dog, Mallie. He was the devoted husband of Patricia Twiford Golden for 63 years.

He was born on October 16, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of the late Leo Joseph Golden and Julia Alma Mullins Golden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Leo J. Golden.

In addition to his wife, Pat, he leaves to cherish his memory six children.  Thomas Barry Golden (Jackie) of Fresno, CA, Vanessa Cooper (David), Teresa Marie Golden, Jennifer Bell (Ed), all of Amherst County. Monsignor Patrick Dupree Golden of Roanoke and Richard Kelly Golden, DDS  (Wendy), also of Amherst County.

Ten grandchildren, Lindsey Cooper Orwig (Brad) of Bluffton SC, Kelsey May La Fleur (Aaron) of Madison Heights, Patricia “Trisha” Cooper McConaghy (Collin) of Richmond, Zachary J. May (Abby) of Charleston, SC, Patrick H. Cooper of Folly Beach, SC, Hannah G. Prodrabsky (Joey) of Chesapeake, VA. Cassidy A. Bell, Noah C. Golden, Lynley T. Golden, and Haden K. Golden, all of Amherst County. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.

Tom was devoted to his faith and family. He was a longtime, faithful member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Tom was also an avid fly fisherman and loved being outdoors. He was a master carpenter, and his craftsmanship was enjoyed by his family and the community. Tom had a great sense of humor and was always smiling.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 11:00AM Tuesday, February 2, 2021 with Monsignor Patrick Golden officiating.  A private burial will take place following the ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Thomas R. Golden to the charity of your choice.
