Thomas Stone Marshall, 86, of Lynchburg, VA, died Saturday, September 01, 2012. He was the husband of Pauline Elliott Marshall for 62 years
Born Sunday, August 01, 1926 in Halifax County, VA, Thomas was a son of the late Nathan Douglas Marshall and Judith Crews Marshall.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by two brothers, Innes and Arthur Marshall, and a sister: Rebecca M. Jennings.
In addition to his wife, Thomas is survived by two daughters: Donna M. Brown and her husband Glenn, and Kathy M. Harris; four grandchildren: Christopher Brown, Judith Nagy and her husband, Michael, Natalie Harris, and Marshall Harris; two brother\"™s in-law: Curtis Elliott and his wife, Betty, and John Faulkner; two sister\"™s in-law: Joan Inge and her husband, Earl, and Shirley Marshall; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Thomas proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a member of the 82nd Airborne 325th Glider Infantry Division, and was a member of America\"™s Guard of Honor which led the 1946 New York City Victory Parade. He worked 37 years for the City of Lynchburg as a police officer and in the City Collector\"™s office. He was a faithful and supportive member of Fairview Christian Church, the Christian Men\"™s Fellowship at Fairview, United Travelers of America and the Lion\"™s Club. Thomas was a family man and a good role model and father figure, not only for his daughters, but for all the family. He never met a stranger; he knew how to connect with people. He could also be comical at times, with practical jokes or more serious with his story telling. Thomas was a true handy man, who could make or fix anything around the house. He will be missed.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, September 05, 2012 at Fairview Christian Church. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, September 05, 2012 at Fairview Christian Church with Rev. Curtis Wheeler and Rev. D. Jack Hamilton officiating. Interment will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 6, 2012.
