Thomas Wayne Smith, Sr., 75, of Amherst, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 23, 2015. He was the loving husband of Betty Phelps Smith.
Born in Lynchburg on November 10, 1939, Wayne was a son of the late Roy Herbert Smith and Amanda Frances Smith. He worked as a truck driver for 45 years, he was known by his CB Handle “Easy Pickns”. Wayne loved camping and bowling with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Wayne is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Dawn Knight (Allen) of Cumming, Ga.; two sons, Thomas Wayne “Tommy” Smith, Jr. (Stacey), of Lynchburg, and Gary Lee Smith (Jeanie), of Amherst; two brothers, Charles Smith (Bettie), of Lynchburg, and Roy Herbert Smith, Jr., of Rustburg; three grandchildren, Jessica Smith, Shannon Smith, and Hunter Knight; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Graham; and brother-in-law, Lionel Graham.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday, July 27, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
