Timothy Barrett

d. March 24, 2023

Tim Barrett, beloved pastor and husband, father, and grandfather went home to the Lord on March 24, 2023, at the age of 72. Tim’s life was filled with love, laughter, and a deep devotion to Jesus Christ.

Born on July 14, 1950, in Wyandotte, Michigan, Tim grew up with a loving and supporting mother. As an adult, he accepted the Lord at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa in California where he met and married his wife, Sue. He started studying Hebrew with a Jewish couple. He later accepted the call to Calvary Chapel Conference Center in Twin Peaks where he was able to use his cooking skills to minister to college students and retreat attendees. He was also able to run Claremont College kitchen.

He developed his professional career in engineering as a field technician where he was transferred to Parker Colorado and had the privilege to minister with Justin and Janie Alfred at Calvary Chapel of Parker. He returned to California and accepted the call to Garden Grove Calvary Chapel where he led the adult singles group. Jack and Glenna played a supporting role in this ministry. Tim taught many home fellowships and Bible studies with Carol Woods leading worship.

While serving the adult singles ministry, he decided to go back to college at Vanguard University and earned a degree for Pastoral Studies and Conflict Management. To finish a master’s degree, the Lord led him to Lynchburg Virginia.  He earned a Master of Arts in Religion from Liberty University with high honors where he also was able to continue his love for the Hebrew language.

Tim received his ordination at Calvary Chapel of Greene where he served in a myriad of compacities. He led many studies including a series focused on the Tabernacle and Jewish Feasts. He served as an elder and a member of the pastoral board. Tim’s contributions were paramount to a culture centered on Christ’s love.

Tim was a devoted husband and father who always put his family first after Christ. In fact, his deep love for his wife created Pampered Sue before Pampered Chef existed. He was a passionate reader who spent much time engaging in his children and grandchildren activities while supporting family projects and interest. He was also an avid student of the Word, photographer, author, gardener, artist, chef, and Celtic gospel enthusiast.

As an ambassador for Christ, Tim took the gospel wherever he went. He had no shame in his Lord’s name and took advantage of every opportunity to speak about the Lord. He consistently opened his home to his community to share the gospel.

He was a natural storyteller and loved spending time with friends and family, sharing stories and memories of the Lord’s faithfulness in his life. He will be remembered for his legacy of love, quick wit, gift of hospitality, being a prankster, and his ability to make everyone around him laugh, especially with his Yiddish and cartoon voices.

In Tim’s bucket list remained the desire to tour the Holy Lands, visit a Kibbutz, and finish his books and vignettes.

Tim is survived by his wife Sue, two sons Edward and Dustin, his daughter Tricia, grandchildren Katie, Nathaniel, Layla, Caedon, Taylor, Crosby, Lucille, Nixon, Elliott, and his sister Arleene. He will always be remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him. This Jesus freak will continue to live on through his family, the many lives he touched and the lives he will touch in the future.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg is assisting the family.
