Timothy “Tim” M. Smith

Timothy \"Tim\" Mason Smith, 62, of Appomattox, formerly of Romney, WV, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Salem, VA. He was the loving husband of Nancy Boor Smith for 19 years.

 

Born in Towanda, Pennsylvania, May 24, 1948 he was a son of the late Mason Sanford Smith and Lillian Russell Smith.  Tim proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He was wounded in a mine explosion in 1970 for which he received the Purple Heart Medal.  Tim was passionate about hunting and he enjoyed traveling to Black Water Falls and Cannan Valley, WV.  He especially loved being involved with 4-H in both Florida and West Virginia, where he was a shooting sports instructor and cooked for 4-H camps.

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Russell Smith and wife, Sarah of Aiken, SC, Meredith Smith-Osborne and husband, Jason of WA, Laurie A. Muse and fiancé, Matt Marker of Fort Ashby, WV, Melissa \"Missy\" Wilcox and husband, Jeff of Appomattox.  He was affectionately known as \"Papi\" to his grandchildren, Bailey, Chaz, J.C., Ashleigh, Brittney, and Tristan; his brother, Rhett Smith and wife, Carol of Linden, PA; his sister, Tracy Shaylor of Towanda, PA; and special friends Bill Hardenburg and John DuFossé.

 

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 30, 2011 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel, Lovingston.

 

A service with full military honors will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
