Tinsley Calvin “TC” Jennings, of Madison Heights, passed away on January 21, 2017, at his home with his loving family at his side. He was the husband of Deborah Wrenn Jennings for 49 years.
Born Monday, September 10, 1945, in Monroe, Virginia, TC was the son of the late Tinsley Coleman Jennings and the late Susie Elizabeth Campbell Jennings.
In addition to his parents, TC was preceded in death by his brother, David Jennings and his sister, Carolyn Quinn.
In addition to his wife, TC is survived by his sons, Mark Jennings and his wife, Lisa of Madison Heights, Va., and Scott Jennings and his wife, Tracey of Bedford, Va.; 4 grandchildren, Haley, Hunter, Ashley, and Maddie; three sisters, Doris Waller, of Knoxville, Tenn., Geraldine Massie and her husband, James, of Goode, and Becky Simmons and her husband, Larry, of Lynchburg.
TC spent most of his life in the Madison Heights community. After graduating from Amherst County High School in 1966, TC enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Thor. After a dedicated career in the transportation field, TC retired from Harris Trucking. He became quite the gardener, producing garden vegetables that he shared with family, neighbors and friends. TC was often found sitting on the front porch greeting neighbors as they came and went down the road. He enjoyed watching the birds visit his multiple feeders on his porch and in the yard. TC shared his love for fishing with his grandchildren and taught them all his fishing secrets.
TC’s true passion and love was for “the game”. He was a fan, coach, mentor, and student of all sports, especially the ones his grandchildren played. He was known to be a man of many hats seen wearing Madison Heights Dixie, Amherst, Liberty and Jefferson Forest team hats, sometimes all in the same day. He spent years at the ball fields in Madison Heights coaching and cheering on his own kids and grandkids, or just hanging out with old friends watching baseball or softball.
TC loved his family, friends and did not know a stranger. He was a game master and kept family on their toes with brain teasing puzzles, riddles, card games, and made every occasion a fun event. TC was the link that bridged many friends and family together. He was a supportive and loving brother in law, uncle, and friend. He leaves a legacy of family tradition most noted by the love he had for his wife Deborah. In Deborah’s words, “he was the best”.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to Madison Heights Dixie Youth Baseball, 319 Trojan Road Madison Heights, VA 24572. A special thank you to Centra’s Cancer Center and Hospice staff for their care and compassion.
