Toby Blaine St. Clair, 50, of Bedford, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born in Roanoke, VA on August 30, 1971. He was preceded in death by his dad, Norris Blaine St. Clair, sister, Tammy Lynn Chapman and stepdad, Ronnie Carter; paternal grandparents, Harry and Veatrice St. Clair and maternal grandparents, W.E. “Bill” Ferris and Betty S. Meador.
Toby served his country in the US Coast Guard after which he earned a degree from VCU. He then went on to become a fireman at Salem Fire and EMS. He was a faithful member of Glade Creek Baptist Church. Toby had a passion for history, reading, writing, and loved to act and write plays. He had accomplished so much in his lifetime.
He is survived by his mother, Rickie Lynn Ferris Carter; step-brothers, Shannon Carter and Jonathan Carter; brother-in-law, Robert Chapman, Sr.; grandmother, Ruth Ferris; step- grandfather, Maynard Meador; nephew, Robert Wayne (Robbie) Chapman, Jr, uncles, Alan Ferris (Shirl), Butch Ferris (Peggy), Jeffrey Ferris and aunt, Regina Agee (Greg) and numerous cousins and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Daniel Temeles, Bedford Centra Hospice and Rhonda Lavoie for their help and care through this difficult time.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Tharp Funeral Chapel, Bedford with the Rev. Dr. Philip Ayers and Rev. Steve McChesney officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
