Tunney Estes Williams, Sr., 80, of Amherst, died Friday May 20, 2016. He was the loving husband of Janet Coffey Jones Williams for 40 years.
Tunney was born in Campbell County a son of the late Frank James Williams and June Bayne Williams. Tunney honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy, was retired as a supervisor with the Lynchburg Foundry and an active member of Clifford Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Tunney E. Williams, Jr. (Rose Mary) of Forest; he was “Papa” to Cheryl J. Rasnake (Randy) of Meadowview, Geoffrey N. Jones (Lynn) of Lynchburg, and Gregory P. Jones (Angela) of Madison Heights; two sisters, Myrtle Knopp of Concord, and Geri Cousart of Lynchburg; eight grandchildren Megan Coleman (Edward), Justin Williams (Heidi), Logan Jones (Jackie), Natalie Jones, Jillian Jones, Naomi Jones, Abigail Jones, and Colin Jones; and two great-grandchildren, Ella Coleman and Cole Coleman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Williams, Jr., Charles Williams and Benny Williams; a sister, Marguerite W. Gottschall, three half-brothers, Lawrence, Lawson, and Russell; and one half-sister, Ethel.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Clifford Baptist Church, 635 Fletchers Level Rd. Amherst, Va. 24521.
A Celebration of Tunney’s Life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday May 23, 2016 at Clifford Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Mike Fitzgerald and Rev. Gilbert Foster officiating. Interment will follow at El Bethel Cemetery in Allwood, Va. on Route 635.
