Uel Clayton Hartless

February 3, 1930 — June 16, 2016

Uel Clayton Hartless, 86, of Lynchburg, VA, died Thursday, June 16, 2016.  He was the husband of Hazel McConville Hartless for 60 years.

Born Sunday, February 02, 1930 in Amherst County, VA, Uel was a son of the late Lloyd Massie Hartless and the late Myrtie Mae Campbell Hartless.

In addition to his wife, Uel is survived by a son, Mark Hartless and his wife, Joyce, of Rockville, UT, a daughter, Jill Hartless Jones and her husband, Josh, of Forest, a granddaughter, Katie Jones, of Forest, four brothers, Sylvester Hartless and his wife, Geneva, of Lynchburg, Derek Hartless and his wife, Judy, of Amherst, Bruce Hartless and his wife, Marion, of Monroe, and Johnny Hartless and his wife, Barbara, of Charlottesville, two sisters, Sybil Hartless, of Danville, and Brenda Neal and her husband, Archie, of Stokesdale, NC, and numerous nieces, nephew, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Uel was preceded in death by a brother, Neal Hartless, and two sisters, Jean Warner and Phyllis Fulcher.

Hard work was the way of life that Uel knew. He always stayed busy and loved the outdoors. Although a shrewd businessman, he was a very generous person and would do anything for you. His family was the love of his life. He served his country during the Korean Conflict as a member of the US Navy. Uel was a member of the Gideon’s International Bedford Camp for over 50 years. A member of Forest Baptist Church he especially enjoyed his Sunday School Class there. A man who related well with people, he will be missed.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday June 20, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.  A celebration of Uel’s life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Tyler Scarlett officiating.  Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.
