Urban Lyle Joy, Jr., 84, of Lynchburg, passed away January 2, 2016 at his home. He was the husband of Patsy Ann Loving Joy for 59 years.
Lyle was born January 7, 1931 in Campbell County, Virginia. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 23 years of dedicated service that included duty during the Vietnam and Korean Wars. He continued his public service as a deputy sheriff for both, the Lynchburg and Campbell County, Sheriff’s Departments and completed his career at Westminster Canterbury as Director of Security.
In addition to his wife, Pat, Lyle is survived by one daughter, Brenda Joy Crane, of Lynchburg, and her friend, Ellis P. George, Jr.; granddaughter, Christy Crane Schmitt and husband, Brandon; great-granddaughter, Taylor Ann Crane; great-grandson, Thomas Lyle Schmitt, all of Lynchburg; two sisters, Nancy Puckette, and husband, David; and Hazel Williamson and husband, Earl, both of Rustburg, Va; brother-in-law, John Loving and his wife, Jean.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Urban Lyle and Mabel Joy; step-mother, Ethel Joy; brother, Billy Ray Joy; and an infant daughter, Baby Joy.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on January 6, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A memorial service will be conducted at Calvary Baptist Church, 20957 Timberlake Drive, Lynchburg, Va. at 11 a.m. January 7, 2016 with the Reverend Louis Beckwith officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
