Valerie Annette Merchent
June 4, 1957 — August 6, 2020
Valerie Annette Merchent passed away at age 63 after a brief illness with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents John & Odessa Merchent. She is survived by her siblings Elaine Merchent, Tammy M. Blanchette (Dave), Jay Merchent, Carla M. Smith (Reggie) and niece Jessica M. Jamison (Paul) and nephews Cody Merchent (Bailey) and Darren Smith and great nephew Beau Merchent.
Valerie was a 1975 Brookville HS graduate and played on the basketball, volleyball and softball teams. She earned her Data Processing AAS degree and Technical Studies AS from CVCC. She spent her career in computer programming starting with Campbell County for 20 years, Genworth Financial for 10 years and Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority for 8 years.
In her early years, Valerie enjoyed working with the Volunteer Rustburg Rescue Squad. In her midlife she got into RV camping complete with golf cart cruising. Valerie also supported rescue animal groups and became the proud parent to several dogs over the last 25 years of her life. She loved spending time with her fur babies, Tess, Logan, Morgan and Maria.
As per Valerie’s wishes, there will be no services and she will be cremated.
Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
