Valoyce "Val" Johnson Walker

Valoyce “Val” Johnson Walker, 84, of Bedford Co., departed this life April 13, 2018.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Cauthorn, and her parents, Olaf and Virginia Johnson.  She is survived by her sister, Margaret Trostel (Maynard) of Greeley, CO and her brother, Fred Johnson (Carol) of Pacific City, OR. She is also survived by her nieces, Paxton Allgyer (Chris) of Big Stone Gap, VA and Kelly Sorensen (Howard) of Norfolk, VA and her nephews, Aaron Johnson (Nicola) of Hillsboro, OR; Kurt Trostel of Denver, CO; Phil Trostel (Christina) of Thornton, CO; and Michael Walker (Holly) of Powhatan, VA.

Val was a retiree of Carilion Bedford Memorial Hospital, where she worked for 20 years.  A long-time member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Bedford, Val loved helping her church family.  She also had a passion for history, volunteering with Cauthorn at Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest and taking many trips to Williamsburg. She enjoyed fishing, raising animals on the family farm in Bedford, and creating art.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and The Order of the Daughters of King.

A service celebrating Val’s life will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 314 N. Bridge St., Bedford, VA at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s or to Poplar Forest.
