Van J. Daniels

Van Johnson Daniels, 66, of Forest, VA, passed peacefully Thursday, September 20, 2012, with his wife and family by his side. He was the husband of Janice Branch Daniels for 43 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters, his mother in-law Daisy Branch, and a brother in-law, Leon Branch.

In addition to his wife, Van is survived by two daughters: DeAnna Daniels with companion Bill Fischer, and Melanie Geronimos with husband Chris, all of Savannah, GA; two sisters: Priscilla Vaughan and Barbara Daniels, of Bedford; three brothers: Eldo, Clifton, and Doug Daniels, of Bedford; his father in-law Marvin Branch, of Big Island, two sisters in-law Susie Manley and her companion and Van\"™s special friend, Craig Eichhorn, of Lynchburg, and Rachel Toms and her husband, Carlton, of Bedford, a brother in-law W.D. Branch and his wife, Carolyn, of Big Island, a special nephew Terry Manley and his wife, Donna, and their daughter Sarah, of Goode, and numerous nieces, nephew, and cousins. Special thanks to Van\"™s caregivers, Ester Kimuthia and Pat Walton.

Van will be remembered first and foremost as a loving and supportive husband and father.   He served his country proudly in Vietnam, and later in life was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge # 715 in Lynchburg. His vegetable garden was known to many friends and family, who reaped the rewards of both his green thumb and his generous heart. The same lifelong passion for nature led him to become an accomplished outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was a hard worker as well, employed with Meredith-Burda and later R.R. Donnelley for 32 years. All who were fortunate enough to know him were touched by his love for life, his quick sense of humor, and his care and concern for those around him.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg and at other times at the residence. A celebration of Van's life will be conducted at 6:30 PM on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory with Van\"™s close friend, Gary Witt officiating.
