Velma Jane Baker

Velma Jane Goodin Baker, 93, of Bedford, died Friday, August 6, 2010 at her residence.  Born July 9, 1917 in Somerset, KY, a daughter of the late Alta Marie Helton Goodin and Oscar L. Goodin.

Velma was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and a retiree of Good Samaritan Hospital.  She loved gospel music and most of all she loved her family.

In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her husband, James Raymond Baker. She is survived by three daughters, Betty Schuette and husband, David of Bedford, Marie M. Lower of West Palm Beach, FL and Judy Emery and husband, Bill, Sr. of Okeechobee, FL; one brother, Quinton Goodin of Cincinnati, OH; one sister, Verdia Peeno of Florence, KY; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Velma\"™s life will be conducted at 2 Pm, Monday, August 9, 2010 at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. H. Vernon DeLong officiating.  Burial will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Sunday, August 8, 2010 at Tharp Funeral Home.   Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, 586-3443.
