Vercie “Vickie” Manlor Viar Guthrie, 78, of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014. Born September 21, 1935 in Halifax County; she was a daughter of the late Edgar Alston Viar and Cordelia Fears Viar Watts. She was the loving wife of Elbert Durell Guthrie, Jr. for 44 years.
Vickie is survived by one child, James Alvin Parsons and wife, Mary of Salem; three grandchildren, Renee, James Daniel, and Sarah all of Salem; a brother, C. Alvin Watts and wife, Debbie of Evington; and a sister, Helen Janie Gregory from Prince George.
Vickie was raised on a farm in Charlotte County. She was employed as a factory worker in her early working years, until she later became a CNA and was employed for 35 years with Centra Health and later with Westminster Canterbury until her retirement. Vickie was a member of Living Waters Ministries and Woodmen of the World.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 PM, Friday, June 27, 2014 in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home with Pastor Mack Almond officiating. Entombment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service on Friday.
