Vergene Helen Mcneil
Vergene Helen McNeil, a longtime resident of Oakwood Manor Nursing Home, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2010. Born on April 2, 1918, in Minden, NE, a daughter of the late Minnie Helen Stevens Wylie and Benjamin Franklin Wylie. She lived most of her life in Greeley, Colorado, where she worked as a credit manager for the Weld County General Hospital. While living in Greeley, she was a Sunday school teacher, and a Brownie leader. She had many hobbies. She especially loved playing the piano.
In 1992 she moved to Richmond, VA, to live with her daughter, Carol A. Litten, and her son-in-law Mack. In 2005 she moved to Bedford with them. Vergene was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, Vergene was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Willard McNeil, three sisters and four brothers.
Vergene is survived by three children, Carol Litten and husband, Mack of Bedford, VA, Richard McNeil and wife, Margie of Branson, MO, Alyce Gangaware and husband, David of Carver, MN; six grandchildren, Alawna Scherk, Cara Guier-Litten, Michele McNeil, David McNeil, Mattson Gangaware, and Kendra Gangaware; two step-grandsons, Matt Litten and Mark Litten; and two great-grandchildren, Hannah Scherk and Alyssa Scherk.
The family of Vergene\"™s would like to thank all the people who provided loving care for her over the past five years. Special thanks go to all the employees and staff at Oakwood Manor who made her feel like they were her family. So much so, that she called Oakwood Manor her new home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oakwood Manor Nursing Home, PO Box 688, Bedford, VA 24523 or Bedford Hospice Care, 1621 Whitfield Dr., Bedford, VA 24523.
A memorial service will be conducted 10:15 AM, Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Oakwood Manor, 3rd Floor, Day Room with Rev. Joe Flowers officiating. Adams Mortuary will be handling the burial services in Sunset Memorial Garden in Greeley, Colorado. Local arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, 586-3443.
