Verna Fore Houston Falwell, 92, of Forest, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Fay and James Cothran’s home, her daughter and son-in-law.
She was the daughter of the late Daniel Milton Fore and the late Wycliffe Hamlett Fore, and was born in Charlotte County, Va. on November 6, 1922.
Verna worked for the U.S. Government during WWII. She was the former manager of the Montgomery Ward Catalog Store and the former credit manager at Grand Piano for 13 years. She was the retired founder and owner of Houston Personnel, and was a member of College Hill Baptist Church. Verna was the former president of A.B.W.A., State Chapter. Together with her husband, they were former founders and organizers of the Greenstone Social Club, and also founders of the Cardinal Virginia Motor Coach Club. In addition, she was formerly a member of the Board of Directors for the Campbell County Rescue Squad. Verna was an avid crafter and taught others how to do crafts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Walker Falwell; and three siblings, Dorothy Carmichael, Milton R. Fore, Sr., and Samuel Pax Fore.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Fay and James Cothran of Forest, and Sandra Mae Houston and Jackie Jennings of Forest; two stepsons, Samuel Falwell and his wife Gail of Goode, and Frederick Falwell and his wife Betty of Lynchburg; her stepdaughter, Suzette Lefebre and her husband, Ron of Charlottesville; twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, thirteen great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
In addition, the family would like to thank Centra Hospice and Lynchburg Health and Rehab for their tender loving care during Verna’s illness.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 5, 2015, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg, and at other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Fay and James Cothran, 114 Casaloma Drive in Forest.
A funeral service will be held Monday, April 6, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg with Rev. Andrew Grose officiating. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park.
