Veronica departed this life on Saturday, June 4, 2022. She was the daughter of the late, Willie Mae and Timothy K. Allen; granddaughter of Laura Stevens Allen her father’s mother who raised her. Veronica was born on March 6, 1960, in Washington, D. C. Veronica graduated in June 1979 from Saint Patrick’s Academy, Washington, D. C. She also completed two years of additional education – one year of Business College and one year of vocational college. Veronica attended Saint Phillip Baptist Church in Washington, D. C. from 1967 – 1995. In October of 1998, Veronica moved to Roanoke, Virginia to be a caregiver for her God mother. On June 10, 2000 she married her best friend – Walter A. Carpenter (note: in Veronica’s writing of this obituary – she noted how much she would miss her best friend and husband – Walter). Living Word Church, Pastor Camm in Lynchburg, Virginia from 2011-2015. She also worshipped at Scott Zion Baptist Church in Madison Heights, Virginia. Veronica learned of her first Breast Cancer in 2001 and went into remission after surgery and extensive treatments until her second bout with Breast Cancer in 2014. Veronica worked from the time she arrived here in Virginia in 1998 until 2015. While illness prevented her from returning to work; she still stayed busy doing something – sending greeting cards, keeping in touch with family and friends and loving to brighten up someone’s day by helping them in some way. She loved and enjoyed cooking for family and friends. Yes, we will truly miss her, she was one of a kind. In fact, she was so high spirited, you could not tell when she was feeling bad. Veronica will be forever cherished by her husband, Walter A. Carpenter, and her stepmother-in-law, Jeanette Carpenter; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Donna Moore of Fort Washington, Maryland; Diana and Granville Coleman of Lynchburg, Virginia; very close cousins: Virgie Landrum, Vee Rucker, and Arthur “Al” Landrum; and a host of relatives and friends. As you read this obituary please know that Veronica had handwritten this program left to be filled in where necessary and had these parting words: “I will miss you family and friends. ‘til I see you again. Thank you for being a part of my life. And when you come this way, I’ll be at the gate welcoming you with open arms!

A memorial service will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg in the Chapel on Friday June 10th at 3pm.
