Vicki Thomas (VT), 65, of Goode, VA went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday June 24, 2021. She was surrounded by her family. We had the privilege of sitting around her for hours telling VT stories and alternating between laughing and crying. It was a beautiful thing.
Vicki is survived by her husband Mike, children Lisa, Justin and wife Jamie, and Robert and grandchildren Oliver Walker Thomas, Harrison James Thomas, Jozie Rae Thomas and James North Thomas.
In lieu of visitation or a service it is our desire that anyone reading this spend that time with family or friends letting them know how much you love them. Not looking at your phone time, not texting time, but focused attentive, caring, listening time. To help that happen VT and I decided to provide two hundred $20 gift cards to Charley’s restaurant on Graves Mill Rd. in Lynchburg. Simply tell the hostess you are a friend of Vicki Thomas and they will give you a gift card to enjoy lunch or dinner with someone special to you.
In lieu of flowers please consider donations to Lynchburg Daily Bread or Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity.
Every family has that one person that they all agree is a “bless their heart one of a kind” person. VT was ours. You never had to guess where you stood with her. She was never malicious, but she was always direct. A friend recently described her by saying one of the things he liked the most about her was that “everyone has a little person in their head that takes what you are thinking about saying and filters it before you say it. VT’s little person took a lot of vacations”. I loved that about her. She was not perfect, no one is, but she was perfect for us.
I always knew where I stood in the pecking order with her. She would gleefully count down her top 10 every so often, making sure that I could hear her. The grandchildren were 1 —4, children 5 —7, puppies 8 -10. The cat and I alternated between 11th and 12th depending on if he had recently puked in the laundry room floor. I always considered it an honor to be that close to the top 10.
She was a fierce and passionate wife, mother and grandmother who always put us above herself.
Over time as the statue of limitations runs out my family and friends will hear even more VT stories and sayings and we’ll all have a good laugh in remembrance of her. I am looking forward to that time and to sharing with you.
Thank you Lisa for taking such good care of your mom in her last days. Your attention and caring for her was only equaled by her love for you.
A special thank you to Dr Larry Redmond for being VT’s personal radiologist. You saved us untold days of anxiety and for that we are eternally grateful. A debt of gratitude also to Hope Pesce and Tonya Walker, her caregivers, for the love and attention you gave her when she needed it the most. I also want to thank the nurses at Centra Hospice. I can’t imagine how you do what you do. You are evidence that angels do walk among us.
