Proverbs 31 describes a woman who goes to extraordinary lengths to care for her family and those around her. She is a godly woman whose character is clothed in dignity and strength. Many women do noble things, but she surpasses them. When God slipped into her room on the morning of August 22, He knew Mom’s legacy was complete and He took our Proverbs 31-woman home.
Virginia was born on August 16, 1930, to Robert Henry and Mary Ella Brown. She had a great love for children stemming from the large unit she was blessed to call family. Having been predeceased by her parents and ten siblings, she was the last surviving child in her generation.
She loved the Lord with all her heart and the Senior Choir was how she best expressed that adoration in corporate worship. The old hymns of the church were always her favorites, and nothing could bring her comfort like the words to “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.”
She wore many hats, but valued none more than that of Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and GiGi. She was Mrs. Melvin Thomas Fowler for forty-six years and took great pride in working beside him as they built a warm, loving, Christian home for their daughters Patricia (Rev. Albert Read) and Janet (Rev. Russell Lomax). She worked diligently and lived a blessed life, always willing to share whatever she had if it made another’s life easier. She was soft-spoken, kind-hearted, and spoke wisdom into the lives of all who would listen. The greatest gift she gave us was to teach us about the love of Jesus Christ.
She poured the same love into her five grandchildren, who affectionately call her Grammaw, by giving wise instruction with open arms and a tender heart. Candice (Ron), James (Donna), Kendra (Leroy), Russell (Jasmine), and Brandon (Tabitha) have a special bond with her that will be a lasting legacy reaching into the next generation. Her fourteen great grands lovingly refer to her as Gigi and have many memories of planting flowers, going through her jewelry box, and eating cookies in her kitchen. Alyce, Alexis, Aiden, Jamesha, Jaelyn, Jamarius, Isaiah, Cameron, Andrea, Isabelle, Marigold, Dillion, Carson, and Princeton will all have memories to cherish as we gather for family events and speak of her often. We are who we are because of her love and guidance and the greatest tribute we can pay her is to pass that legacy forward.
Ours is a large family and there are many dear, close friends and relatives, here and abroad, who will be holding their memories of Virginia in a special place in the years to come. Among them are sisters-in-law Mrs. Betty Brown, Washington D.C., Mrs. Cleo Brown, Evington, Mrs. Louise Hutton, Philadelphia, and Mrs. Betty Fowler, Lynchburg. Brothers-in-law include Mr. Freddie Fowler, Nevada, and Mr. Clayton Fowler, Lynchburg.
Funeral services and burial will be held privately due to COVID-19 related illness within the family. A celebration of Virginia’s life will be held at a later date.
The family requests no visitors at their homes at this time, but would like to thank all for your prayers, love, and support
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
“May the Savior’s hand caress you in your blessed sweet repose.”
