Virginia "Ginny" Hughes

Virginia “Ginny” Hughes passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 18, 2017. She was born on January 26, 1929, to Charlie Walton and Annie Emily Morgan in Warwick (now Newport News), Virginia. In addition to her parents, brothers, and sisters, Ginny was predeceased by her husband of 64 years,, AVCM (ret.) Donald R. Hughes.
Ginny was a proud Navy wife and a retired communications management specialist for the U.S. Navy. She was a loyal friend and an ever generous benefactor to those in need. She loved to travel and never met a slot machine she didn’t like or couldn’t get the best of. Prior to her relocation to Appomattox County in 2008, Ginny was a long-time resident of Chesapeake, Virginia.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Donna Hughes-Oldenburg and Lisa Hughes-Lanum; son-in-law Ken Lanum; granddaughters Michelle Lanum and Donna Renee Lanum; “son from another mother” Tony Marcal; and sister-in-law Dena Morgan Moore. Special in Ginny’s heart was Victoria Seal, her caregiver of the past 5 years.
Ginny will be inurned with her beloved husband Donald at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Madison Heights, is assisting the family.
