Virginia Mary Graffeo (Ginger), 77, of Amherst, Virginia, passed away on April 17, 2025. A loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Ginger lived a life centered around family, faith, and kindness.
Born on February 16, 1948, in Queens, New York, Ginger was the daughter of the late Francis Vroman and Caroline Keenan. She was also the devoted wife of the late Paul Graffeo for 24 cherished years.
Ginger attended Dominican Commercial High School and carried her values of service and community with her throughout her life. She was a dedicated member of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, where she volunteered her time, often through programs like Meals on Wheels.
Before moving to Virginia, Ginger raised her family in Shirley, New York, on Long Island. She worked for the Brookhaven Highway Department, where she was known for her reliability, work ethic, and easygoing nature.
She had a quiet strength and a generous heart. Ginger found joy in life’s simple pleasures—reading a good book, relaxing with a solitaire game on her iPad, or enjoying a cup of coffee with loved ones. Above all, she adored her family and was happiest surrounded by her grandchildren, whom she doted on with pride and affection.
Ginger’s warmth, sense of humor, and selflessness touched everyone who knew her. Whether through her thoughtful words, her willingness to lend a helping hand, or her comforting presence, she left a mark of love and compassion that will be felt for years to come.
She is survived by her beloved children: Philip Fischer (Jennifer) and Karen Ganatra (Peter); her treasured grandchildren: Abigail Fischer, Victoria Fischer, Connor Ganatra, and Joshua Ganatra; and her loving siblings: Jack Vroman and Carolyn Flood. She also leaves behind many dear friends and extended family members who will miss her greatly.
Ginger is reunited in peace with her husband Paul, her brother Francis Vroman, and her sister Joan Mohorovic.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 332 South Main Street, Amherst, VA 24521, in Ginger’s memory—a tribute to her enduring spirit of giving.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
