Virginia Hatcher Stanley
Mary Virginia Hatcher Stanley, 97, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2014. Born April 18, 1916 in Bedford County; she was a daughter of the late Clay O. Hatcher and Minnie Logwood Hatcher.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Clarence Grady Stanley, Sr., brothers, Maurice Reid Hatcher and Claude J. Hatcher, a sister, Cathryn H. Warlick and a foster sister, Angie S. Leebrick; and a dear friend, John Santamaria, Sr.
Virginia is survived by a daughter, Nancy Stanley Falls and her husband, James E. Jr. of Mineral, VA; a son, C.G. Stanley Jr. and his wife, Glenda of Bedford; grandchildren, Clifton G. "Cliff" Stanley and his wife, Jessica of Huntington, WV, Carson G. Stanley and his fiancée, Lauren Eaton of Vienna, VA, Stacey Falls McCray and her husband, Brian of Louisa, VA; great-grandchildren, Mason and Benjamin McCray; niece, Cathryn \"Randi\" Herrick, Bedford, VA and her daughter, Kalin R. Herrick, New York, NY.
Virginia was a resident of the Elks National Home and member of Bedford Baptist Church. She enjoyed camping and traveling. Upon Clarence\"™s retirement, they enjoyed spending their winters in Florida. She held fond childhood memories of Wheats Valley.
The family extends a heartfelt \"thank you\" to the Elks National Home and Special Care Unit for their personal and professional care that made her feel \"treated like a queen\". Thanks also to Bedford Hospice Care for their care and support in her last days.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Bedford Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. David L. Henderson officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, February 28, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Tharp Funeral Home and all other times at the home of C. G. and Glenda Stanley.
