Virginia Karnes Martin

Virginia Karnes Martin, 90, of Bedford died Friday, August 5, 2011. She was born in Bedford County on April 9, 1921, daughter of the late Walter Jacob Karnes and Fannie Pearl Parker Karnes.

In addition to her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her daughter, Delores Martin Creasy and eight siblings, Hammond, Clyde, Walter, and Patrick Karnes, Goldie Powell, Janie Barker, Doris Martin and Kathryn Parrish.

She was the widow of Thomas Madison Martin, a member of Central Church of Christ and a retired employee of Rubatex with 17 years of service.

She is survived by five children, Carolyn M. Horst and her husband, Robert, Janet M. Peggans and her husband, Wayne, Thomas Penn Martin and his wife Jennie, Nina M Jones and her husband, Ronald, James Farrell Sowards and his wife, Mary Lee; a sister, Frances K. Bobbitt and her husband, Ernie all of Bedford; also 19 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 8, 2011 at the Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev Ron Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 till 4 Sunday at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford.
