She was predeceased by her parents, Michael Eckart and Mary Hanning Eckart; two sisters, Lena Watson and Bertha Wilkerson; two brothers, Arthur Eckart and Edward Eckart; and two husbands, Marshall Wingfield and Archie Walker; son-in-law Robert Stevens.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Mary W. Stevens; three sons, Richard W. Wingfield (Dianne), Charles E. Walker (Penny) and William J. Walker (Melissa); eleven grandchildren, Pamela, Troy, Mary Ann, Sandra, Diana, Michael, Ashley, Kelly, Travis, Jason and Jennifer; eighteen great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Paul Eckart and numerous other nieces and nephews; Virginia also leaves behind her two special friends, Nell Blandford and Ethel Goad; and her furry companions, Tom and Momma Kitty.
Virginia was a graduate of Bedford High School. She retired from General Electric in Lynchburg, VA. During her work career she was also a desk clerk at the Terrace House Motel in Bedford. Her hobbies were embroidery and quilting. She had a green thumb who loved all flowers. She was known for her irises of which at one time she had over 500 different varieties. Let us not forget her beautiful lilies that she and her deer loved dearly. If anyone in the family or her friends were ever sick, Virginia was the first at your door step with her famous chicken noodle soup and offering a helping hand. She was the matriarch of her family. She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. It was nothing for 50-60 people who would gather for fellowship to enjoy her fabulous chili or to celebrate the holidays. Virginia was a charter member of Laural Grove Presbyterian Church which she attended faithfully until it closed.
Her family would like to thank Centra Bedford Hospice and her loving and devoted daughter, Mary W. Stevens for their care in this most difficult of times. “We love you mother, and may you rest in peace in God’s eternal flower garden”
