Virginia Morris Martin, 94, of Lynchburg, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at home surrounded by family and loved ones. She was born in Appomattox on December 18, 1923 to the late Joel and Chessie Morris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Layne Martin. He was her high school sweetheart and they were married for 46 years.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Alfred, Robert, and Jutson; and three sisters, Mary Lizzie, Margaret, and Nannie.
Virginia was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was retired from Courtland Manufacturing where she was a seamstress for 23 years. She loved to work in her garden and yard and loved to cook.
She is survived by two children, Jo Anne Reddy and her husband, James Michael, and Thomas Martin and his wife, Judy; five grandchildren, James Michael, Jr., and Jeff Reddy, DeWayne Martin, Denise Tolley, and Melanie Carter; 10 great-grandchildren: Alexis, Emily, Kate Reddy, and James Michael Reddy, III; Chandler and Grayson Tolley; Hannah and Cohen Martin; and Eli Carter Williamson. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Josephine Morris
Visitation will be at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1975 Trinity Road, Concord, Va., at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with burial at Fort Hill Memorial Park following the service. The family will receive visitors at Virginia’s residence at other times.
