Virginia Thaxton Hurt, 91, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2013. She was born on July 6, 1922, and grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia. She graduated from E. C. Glass High School in 1940 and then attended James Madison University, where she was a member of the glee club.
Virginia leaves beloved husband of sixty nine years, Leslie Cabell Hurt, a son: Robert of Austin, Texas, and a daughter, Gayle Hurt Rosenblatt of Appomattox, Virginia; six Grandchildren, nineteen Great-Grandchildren, and two Great-Great-Grandsons.
Virginia worked as a bookkeeper for the Suburban Hospital Gift Shop of Bethesda, Maryland. She was very active in civic affairs-sang in her church choir (Grace Episcopal of Silver Spring, MD.) for forty-five years, was a member of Children of the Confederacy, and member of the Epes Society (Descendants of Thomas Jefferson), and a Past-President of the American Legion Auxiliary of Wheaton Post 268, and served as Regent of the Washington, D.C. Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a Past-President of The Women\"™s Club of Silver Spring, MD., and was a Staff Sergeant in the Civil Air Patrol.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday July 12, 2013 in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with the Rev. Cathy Montgomery officiating. The family will receive friends at the reception immediately following the service.
Interment will take place privately at Parklawn Cemetery in Rockville, MD.
