Walker (Buddy) Rice, Sr.

Walker Daniel Rice Sr. 76, of Big Island, VA, passed away at home with his family by his side Sunday, June 3, 2012. He was the husband of Daisy Whorley Rice for 29 years.

 Buddy was born Sunday, July 7, 1935 in Rockbridge Co., VA, a son of the late Samuel B. Rice and the late Annie Florence Mayo Rice. He was retired from Harker Painting.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Walker Daniel Rice, Jr. \" Danny\" and wife, Dona, of Bedford, Ricky Kidd and wife Delinda of Natural Bridge, three daughters: Kay Rice and husband Charles Dugger of Lynchburg, Deborah Padgett of Lynchburg, Denise Wilkinson and husband David of Big Island; eight grandchildren: Debra Rice, Amanda Kidd, Tiffany Kidd, Charlie Padgett, Elise Padgett, Taylor Nash, Jonathan Wilkinson and David Ray Wilkinson; six great grandchildren: Aqua Rice, Jace Henson, Ariana Mitchell, Jace Padgett, and Kathryn and David Wilkinson, along with several nieces and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by a grandchild: Walker Daniel Rice, III; a sister: Edith Spence; three brothers: Nelson Rice, Morris Rice and Clarence Rice.

 The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory Lynchburg

 A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on June 6, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hunting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
