Wallace Edwin Masencup, Iii

Wallace Edwin Masencup, III, 69, passed peacefully at his home in Amherst in the early morning hours of April 10, 2012.

Wally was born June 20, 1942, in Amherst, the only child of the late Wallace Edwin Masencup, Jr. and the late Nancy Parr Masencup. He was preceded in death by a son, Wallace Clinton (Clint) Masencup.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Margaret Horne Masencup; sons, William Thomas (Bill) Masencup of Amherst; Charles Edwin (Charlie) Masencup of Charleston, SC, and his daughter, Margaret \"Kristi\" Masencup of Amherst. Wally is also survived by his loving and devoted pets KiKi, Bud and Holly.

Wally graduated from Fishburne Military School in 1959 and earned a business degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1964. He also served in the Virginia National Guard for six years, spending training at Fort Jackson, SC and Fort Polk, LA. In 1999, he retired from the Claims Department of Nationwide Insurance Company where he worked for 33 years.

In addition, Wally enjoyed farming for many, many years. He was proud of leaving his farmland better off than when he started it and he finally had the perfect herd of cows. Wally and Margaret also, throughout many years, took self-guided tours of the country and saw everything Wally wanted to see in 48 states including his two favorite states, Alaska and Hawaii. The only states Wally did not visit were Vermont and Kansas. He also enjoyed every opportunity to ride his motorcycle and even got to ride on the Talladega Motor Speedway.

Wally attended Oasis Church and believes he has been reunited with those who God chose before him as he was welcomed by his Lord and Savior.

Wally and his family would like to thank Dr. Kathleen Paul, the oncology staff and nurses, as well as Dr. Larry Clark for the excellent care and gentle nature they provided. We are also grateful to friends and family for all the thoughts, prayers, cards, encouragement, and support during the past 20 months.

A Graveside Service for Wallace will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday April 14, 2012 in Amherst Cemetery with Pastor Bubba Rose and Pastor Steve Harmon officiating. Military Honors to be performed by American Legion Post #16.
