Wallace Lee Burford, 89, of Lynchburg, died April 29, 2015. He was the husband of Elizabeth Woodle Burford for 60 years.
Born in Lynchburg, Virginia, he was the son of the late William Edward and Nadine Eads Burford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Merle Burford Foreman, Nellie Nadine Burford Smith, Mary Burford Duty, and two brothers, Warren Burford and Lewis Burford.
He was a graduate of E. C. Glass High School and Phillips Business College, Lynchburg, Va. He was a resident of Silver Spring, MD and Glendale and Tucson, AZ for many years until his return to Lynchburg.
Wallace was a veteran of the U. S. Army, 69th Division in World War II in the European African Middle East and Germany. He was a life member of the DAV and a member of Forest Road Methodist Church.
He is survived by sons, Gordon Burford of Lynchburg and David Burford and his wife, Alice Burford of Oro Valley, Arizona; also one sister, Frances Burford Logwood of Roanoke, VA and a brother, Floyd F. Burford of Lynchburg, VA and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, VA at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 with the Rev. Dr. Ray Buchanan officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Forest Road United Methodist Church, Lynchburg.
The family thanks the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke, VA for their dedicated care for Wallace during his illness.
