Walter David Hawkes

May 7, 1946 — April 14, 2025

Thaxton

Walter (David) Hawkes, 78, of Thaxton, Virginia, joined his Lord and Savior, on April 14th, 2025. He was born on May 7th, 1946, to Walter and Jean (Stirling) Hawkes of Warren, Massachusetts, whom he has now joined in their Heavenly home, along with his beautiful bride of 55 years, Johnnie Gail (Hennebery) Hawkes, who passed in May of 2023.

David was a truly faithful Servant of God who dedicated his life to ministering to a multitude of members of the body of Christ who were placed along his journey. He was a genuine testament of living a righteous life, encouraging and guiding others in their walk with God, and being a witness to those he encountered on a daily basis. David was a man of great conviction, self-sacrifice, and fully dedicated to building up the kingdom of God during his time on this Earth.

David was a man of many talents, who had an innate ability to master any task he set his mind to. From building homes to repairing anything with a motor, he was also very skilled in writing, editing, and teaching. David had the God-given gifts of discernment, wisdom, and prophesy and was bold enough to yield to that calling.

David was the eldest of five siblings, and the first to make his heavenly journey. His three brothers; Rich Hawkes, Glenn Hawkes, and Tom Hawkes, and sister, Holly (Hawkes) Radon, were the subject of numerous childhood stories of their time growing up in Central Massachusetts. David also leaves behind a son, Lester Hamrick, and 4 daughters; Monica (Hamrick) McCullough, Elisha Hawkes, Sheila (Hawkes) Cerpovicz, and Laurie (Hawkes) Hosegood. He was blessed with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Tharp Funeral Home in Bedford, VA is handling the burial arrangements of David, who will be laid to rest in his wife’s ancestral family cemetery in Thaxton, VA.
