Walter Henry Stinnett, 101, of Lynchburg, went home to be with his Lord and his beloved wife, Virginia Petts Stinnett, of 76 years on Wednesday, July 29, 2015.
Born July 30, 1913 in Buchanan, Va.; Walter was a son of the late Walter Eldridge and Maude Elizabeth Cavanaugh Stinnett of Eagle Rock, Va.
Walter is survived by his son, Robert Stinnett (Mary) of Rustburg; daughters, Edna Pope (Wilmer) of Rustburg, Maude Campbell (Dalton) of Spout Spring, Susan Dobyns (Raymond) of Lynchburg, Eva Mawyer of Lynchburg, and Martha Gillispie of Madison Heights; sisters, Mary Bosserman of Covington and Betty Perry, of Spring Wood; also a daughter-in-law, Jean Stinnett of Roanoke.
Walter is survived by 25 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Walter was preceded in death by three sons, Thomas, Eugene, and Joseph Stinnett; four brothers, Lewis, Bennie, and Joe Stinnett all of Eagle Rock and Guy, of Florida; sisters, Catherine Vassar, and Minnie Stinnett of Eagle Rock.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Walter’s life will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, with Pastor Richard Jett officiating. Interment will follow in Presbyterian Cemetery, Grace Street, Lynchburg, Va.
