Walter Lee Mitchell Jr., 91, of Rustburg, Va., died September 10, 2018. He was the husband of the late Margaret Virginia Caldwell-Mitchell.
Born Friday, December 31, 1926 in Lynchburg, Walter was the son of the late Oscar Walter Lee Mitchell, Sr. and the late Virgie Lee Schley Mitchell.
Walter is survived by his children, Donna Mitchell-Terry and Tony E. Mitchell of Lynchburg, Va., Randy Lee Mitchell of Tawas Bay, Mich., and Dr. Jeffrey Driskill Sr., of Wardensville, W. Va. Walter’s legacy included many surviving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who loved him greatly.
In addition to his wife and parents, Walter was preceded in death by his former wife Louise Raikes, daughter Faye Carol Mitchell-Parr, and granddaughter Wendy Franklin.
Walter proudly served our country as a member of the US Navy and was a Sergeant in the 5th Marine Corps Reserves and Eighth Special Infantry Company, USMCR during the Korean Conflict (1950-51), and was awarded the Korean Service Medal. Walter retired from General Electric, Lynchburg, Va. He was a former member of the American Legion Post 16 in Lynchburg, Va.
