Walter Bates “Pete” Peterson, 82, of Hardy passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at his residence. He was born on May 8, 1935 in Lakewood, OH, a son of the late Walter E. Peterson and Anita Durbeck Bates. Walter worked and retired from Burlington Industries as a quality control supervisor. He served his country in the United States Army. Pete loved yard work, especially gardening. He also enjoyed collecting antiques like furniture and antique automobiles.
Pete is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Linda D. Peterson; three sons, Walter A. Peterson, Eric W. Peterson and Matthew Potter-Peterson; two step-daughters, Rhonda Potter-Abell and husband, Jake and Charity Rice; five grandchildren, Zachery Peterson, Haley Hansford, Michael Peterson, Chloe Potter, Tori Rice; two step-grandchildren, Wyatt Abell and Waverly Abell; one sister, Anita “Neetsie” Suttle; also numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
A memorial service and celebration of Pete’s life will be conducted at 5:00 pm on Thursday, June 8, 2017 in Tharp Funeral Chapel in Bedford. The family will receive friends from 3:00pm until 5:00pm prior to the service. A burial will take place at Amelia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia Court House, VA.
