Walter Ray Deacon, 68, loving father and grandfather, of Lynchburg, passed away with his family by his side on Tuesday, February 7, 2017.
Walter was born April 1, 1948, in Lynchburg, a son of the late Lawrence Joseph Deacon from Lexington, VA, and Grace Ford Deacon from Lynchburg. Walter honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy on the JFK Aircraft Carrier during the Vietnam War. He was retired from the Lynchburg Foundry and was a member of Fairview Christian Church.
He is survived by his sons: Todd E. Deacon of Lynchburg, and Troy W. Deacon-Delaney (Ted) of Lynchburg, devoted son-in-law Raymond Taylor Williams, two sisters: Nelda Deacon-Fields (Robert) of Lynchburg, and Wanda D. Williams (Gene) of Appomattox, one brother, Frank Deacon (Eleanor) of Nacogdoches, TX, three grandchildren: Breanna R. Williams, Taylor R. Williams, and Michael R. Williams all of Lynchburg, and a host of nieces, nephews, and his very special great-niece and great-nephews: Gracen Howard, Gabriel Howard, and Grant Howard.
In addition to his late wife Delores V. Deacon, and parents, he was preceded in death by his loving daughter, Lisa Deacon Williams, and one brother, Dennis A. Deacon.
A private family graveside service will be held at Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Summit Long Term Care Facility, Centra Hospice, and especially his sitters, Deborah Chappelle and Mary-Page Anderson.
