Wanda Hawkins

Wanda Houston Hawkins,62, of Coleman Falls, passed away on April 18, 2024. She was born in Welch, WV, on January 12, 1962, a daughter of the late Melvin Eugene Houston, Sr. and Ruby Tinnell Houston.

After attending E.C. Glass High School, Wanda worked as a cosmetologist for all her adult life. She was the proud owner of Wanda’s Shear Artisan, located off Memorial Avenue in Lynchburg, VA. Wanda married Jerry Lee Hawkins in 1979, they shared 45 wonderful years together.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Karen Houston and Lynn Kemp Houston.

Wanda is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jerry Lee Hawkins; two daughters, Melissa Ann Hawkins (David) and Samantha Lauren Hawkins; five brothers, Melvin Eugene Houston, Jr., Danny Houston, Gary “Peewee” Houston (Ella), Jimmy Houston, and Roger Sam Houston (Terri); six grandchildren, Mazie Tomlin, Abigail Tomlin, Mason Daniel, Braxton Newmann, Leigha Marie Daniel, Skylar Newmann; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg.
