Wanda Jo “Joey” Kanode

Wanda Jo \"Joey\" Swanson Kanode, 72, of Bedford, died Monday, August 19, 2013 at Carriage Hill Retirement Center. She was born February 13, 1941 in Roanoke, VA, a daughter of the late Gordon Garnette Swanson and Lucille Mary Webster Swanson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Kimberly Swanson; nephew, Scott Swanson; niece, Crystal Swanson and a special cousin, Cindy McCray.

Joey is survived by her husband of 44 years, Dennis L. Kanode; three children, Billy Kanode and his wife, Lucinda of Roanoke, Tammy Hardy and her husband, Adam of Bedford, and Lorie Neylon and her husband, Michael of Lynchburg; five grandchildren, Ashton Kanode, Rena Hardy, James Hardy, Paige Neylon and Mattie Nylon; three brothers, Dan Swanson and his wife, Pat, Gordon Wayne Swanson, and Tucker Swanson and his wife, Linda; three sisters, Gay Mary Carver and her husband, Wayne, Kathy St.Clair and her husband, Larry; and Rama Cline and her husband, Marvin; sister-in-law, Nancy Kanode, also numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Carriage Hill Retirement Center and Bedford Hospice Care for their loving care of Wanda.

A celebration of Joey\"™s life will be conducted at 1 PM, Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Tharp Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplin Mark Flores officiating. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem, VA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 pm, Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Tharp Funeral Home.
