Warren Benjamin Neighbors, Jr.

d. December 14, 2017

Warren Benjamin Neighbors, Jr., 70 of Lynchburg, Va., died at Seven Hills Hospice House on December 14, 2017. He is now in the company of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, dancing on streets of gold, playing his guitar and entertaining Angels. Warren was preceded in death by his loving wife of exactly 40 years, Jaunett S. Neighbors.

Warren was born June 22, 1947 in Lynchburg, Va, a son of the late Warren (Bennie) Benjamin and the late Marie Caldwell Neighbors of Concord, Va.

Warren proudly served his country in the United States Air Force with tours in Warner Robins, GA and King Salmon, AK

Warren was a great asset for many years to Bailey Spencer Hardware, Co. He was also a beloved bus driver for Campbell County Schools and Lynchburg City Schools for a total of 20 years, from which he retired in 2012.

Warren had many passions in this life.  He was a well-known and respected musician in the community.  He excelled in guitar and bass. He taught guitar and bass lessons to many students over the years. He was well known by many musicians as “The King of Chords”. Although he never read music, he possessed a deep knowledge of music theory. In his younger years he was a part of several bands. For several years, he and his wife served as junior choir directors at three different churches, leading as many as 40 plus children ages 5-12 in multiple church youth musical productions and ensembles. He was a Born- Again Believer of the Christian faith and made every effort to follow Christ as a follower. He was a member of Langhorne Chapel Community Church where he served as a singer and musician in the church band. For many years he and his wife, Jaunett, ministered at nursing homes, giving of their time by sharing their love for God and music through testimony and song. After retirement, he participated in several local area open mic nights.  Even while in the hospice home, he continued to give his all to bring the joy of music to the patients and workers there.  He lost use of his right arm but insisted, until the end, on others helping him lift his arm to play one more time.

He is survived by his son, Warren B. Neighbors, III and his Wife Penny Jill Neighbors, of Brentwood, TN; and one daughter, Tonesa Ann Musser and her husband Matthew C. Musser of Vinton, Va; one brother, Milton Ray Neighbors and his wife Judy R. Neighbors of Lynchburg, Va; three grandchildren, Lauren-Marie Evelyn-Cole Neighbors, Harmony Dove Musser, and Canton Matthew Musser and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 20, 2017 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, Va.

A celebration of Warren’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Langhorne Chapel Community Church, 15777 Leesville Rd, Evington, Va., 24551 with Pastors Matthew Musser and Pastor Dwight Weaver Jr., officiating.
