Warren Bennie Neighbors
Warren Bennie Neighbors, 90, of Concord went home on the arm of our Heavenly Father March 8, 2011. He was the devoted husband of 65 years to Marie Caldwell Neighbors.
Born August 17, 1920, he was the son of the late Thomas Richard Neighbors and Hattie Woodall Neighbors.
Mr. Neighbors was born and raised on the family farm where he worked it for 40 years and then retiring from Lynchburg Training School after 20 years as a cook. He attended Calvary Baptist Church, Concord.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie and Elsie; one brother, Thomas Wilson \"Pete\" Neighbors. \"Papa\", as he was called, loved his music, he played on Regional Broadcast from 1954 through 1955. The name of the group was the Blue Ridge Mountain Boys. He also loved fishing, playing cards, and he was the \"King Pin\" of Predicting Weather\". Papa was the \"family\" champion of checkers and an avid fan of baseball, but the most important thing in his life was his family.
He is survived by two sons: Warren Neighbors, Jr. and wife, Jaunett of Lynchburg and Milton R. Neighbors and wife, Judy of Goode. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Warren III, Tonesa, Ray, Kelly, Aaron, Jonathan and two step-grandchildren: Scott Trent and April Hedrick, and thirteen great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Friday, March 11, 2001 at 2:00 pm in Concord Cemetery, Phoebe Pond Road, Concord, VA. The visitation will be held Thursday, March 10, 2011 from 7:00 \"" 9:00 pm at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg.
