Warren Monroe Foster, 96, of Lynchburg, VA passed from this life Sunday, July 16, 2017 at the Carrington. The first child of the late Sydney M. and Myrtis Baker Foster, he was born March 17, 1921 in Campbell County, VA. Warren graduated from Brookville High School in 1939 and was employed with Newport News Shipbuilding at the onset of World War II. Enlisting in the U. S. Army Air Corps, he became an aviation mechanic and served with distinction in the Pacific theater at one time as crew chief and flight engineer for Gen. James H. (Jimmy) Doolittle. Warren was employed with Piedmont Airlines from 1949 until his retirement in 1986. He couldn’t get away from airplanes.
He is survived by his daughter Sherrilynn K. Foster of Lynchburg; his son Richard W. Foster, M.D. and wife K. Kambitsis Foster of Baton Rouge, LA; his grandchildren Nicholas Kambitsis Foster, Katherine Almond Foster Klein, and Stephanie Matiatos Foster Hanson, as well as great-grandchildren Tucker Alexander Foster, George Foster Klein, and Richard Nikolaus Foster. Warren was preceded in death just recently by his wife of 72 years Esther Mae Almond Foster and brothers Kenneth L. Foster, Jerald P. Foster, and Malcolm O. Foster.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Union Christian Church in Madison Heights.
A Celebration of Warren’s Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Union Christian Church with Pastor Jim Freeman officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors performed by American Legion Post #16 Honor Guard.
