Wayne C. Mahan

Wayne C. Mahan, 89, of Lynchburg, VA, formerly of Valdosta, GA, died Wednesday, October 20, 2010.  He was the husband of Clara E. Mahan for 40 years.

Mr. Mahan was born Monday, May 23, 1921 in Oilton, OK, a son of the late John Wesley Mahan and Annie Belle Adams Mahan.  He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was retired from the U.S. Air Force where he was an airplane mechanic.  He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed walking.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Connie Echalk and husband, Ray, Old Forge, PA; his sons, Wayne Mahan, Jr. and wife, Nancy, Riverton, WY; and John W. Mahan, Jr. and wife, Brenda, Hominy, OK; his step-daughters, Susan Morykon and husband, Mike, Lynchburg, VA; Marilyn Shahan and husband Tom, Gate, OK; and Judy Lewis and husband, Bob, Flowermound, TX; his step-son, Gary Smith and wife, Deanna, Austin, TX; numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; his brother, Dale Mahan, Denver, CO; and his sister, Mildred Walker, Rockwall, TX.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.  A celebration of Wayne's life will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 23, 2010 in the chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Allen Waldrep officiating.  Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.  Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 16.
