Wayne Crenshaw Helms, 69, of Lynchburg, VA, died Tuesday, July 26, 2016.

Born Friday, November 1, 1946 in Roanoke, Wayne was a son of the late Thomas Christopher Helms and Martha Anne Francis Helms.

In addition to his father, Wayne was preceded in death by a brother, Freddie Helms.

In addition to his mother, Wayne is survived by his children, Laura Turpin and her husband, Pete, Brent Helms and his wife, Jennifer, Vonnie Kostecka, and Katie Henley, and her husband, Jeremy, step children, Jennifer Milo and her husband, Chris, and Donna Titkos and her husband, Joey, eleven grandchildren, three great grandchild, a sister Anne Meade Cooper and her husband, William, a brother, Dr. Lee Thomas Helms and his wife, Sandi, his lifelong friend, Bill Bowen, and his special angel, Margaret Rhodes.

A US Navy veteran, Wayne was a proud, kind hearted man full of life. He loved music hunting, fishing, riding his Gold Wing, and the Hokies. Family and friends meant everything to him.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.  A celebration of Wayne’s life will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Smith officiating, with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post-16.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Military Order of the Purple Heart Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 49, Annandale, VA 22003, or American Legion Post-16, Lynchburg, VA 24506.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
