Wayne Jackson Hall

Wayne Jackson Hall, 78, of Evington died, Wednesday, March 23, 2011.  He was the loving husband of Elizabeth Logwood Hall for 56 years.

Born in Campbell County, June 15, 1932, he was a son of the late James Joyce Boley Hall and Ethel Adkins Hall.  He was a retired truck driver for 35 years. Wayne was an active member of Evington United Methodist Church since 1965.  He served as Lay Leader, Chairman of Trustees and Sunday school class treasurer. He was a loyal and dedicated church member who could always be counted on to offer help to the church, its members or his community\"™s needs. He was a former member of Evington Ruritan Club and received an award for Ruritan of the year in 1984.  While serving in the Korean War as Staff Sargent on the front line from 1951-1953, Wayne survived an enemy attack by playing dead in a fox hole as he witnessed the deaths of his buddies nearby.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children; Vicky Burnette and Tracie Porter of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Janet Evers and husband, Harvey of Altavista, Kendall Hall and wife Quinn of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Bryan Lister and Michelle of Lynchburg, Nathan Lister and Amanda of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Heather King and husband, Robert of Altavista, and Stuart Evers of Altavista;7 great-grandchildren, Kyleigh and Makayla King, Devyn Lister, Kaden Evers, Dustin Agee, Lee Agee, and Erica Agee; three sisters, Lois Callahan of Evington, Marie Scheurman and husband, Bob of Altavista, and Dale Brown of Evington; five brothers, James Hall and wife, JoAnne of Renan, Louis Hall and wife, Barbara of Motley, Gordon Hall and wife Linda of Evington, Larry Hall and wife, Brenda of Evington, and Gene Hall and wife, Mary of Evington.

He was preceded in death by his brother Leslie Hall.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00p.m Friday, March 25, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Evington United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Franklin and Jacob Christian officiating.  Interment will follow in Evington United Methodist Church cemetery, with Military Honors presented by the National Guard.
