Wendy Sams Maddox

d. March 1, 2020

Wendy Ann Maddox, 51, loving wife, mother, daughter and friend passed away on Sunday, March 1st, 2020, at UVA hospital after a long battle with congestive heart failure. She was the wife of Darryl Jene Maddox Sr. for almost 26 years. Born in Clifton Forge on June 14th, 1968, she was the daughter of the late Bobby Grey and Judy Ann Sams of Nelson County.

Wendy was a beloved housewife for much of her life, but she also worked as an optometrist’s assistant in her youth. Though she had some trouble with her heart, it was never too small for any stray animals she happened across. She was very fond of birds in particular. Her husband remarks that he would not have been surprised if she tried to bring a chicken or a duck into the house as they were some of her favorites.

Her love of these creatures was guaranteed and widely known. She was also very interested in space and science, being an avid collector of related memorabilia. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Darryl Jene Maddox Jr. of Gladstone, Va; two step daughters Serenity A. Maddox of Madison Heights, Va and Rebecca M. Hall of Lynchburg, Va; Two aunts Norma Jean Bixby of Waynesboro, Va and Mary Jane Yeager of Waynesboro, Va; and her in-laws Helen Rebecca and James Reuben Maddox of Monroe, Va.

She joins in eternity both of her parents and cherished Uncle Howard Cronk Jr. of Burnsville, Va. Wendy will also be joining Sergeant Sammy Sams, a family member she admired for much of her life as well for her strong will and strength of character.

The family will be holding a Memorial service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Kings Wood Baptist Church 159 Kings Wood lane, Arrington, Virginia 22922 with Carroll Martin officiating.

Thank you for your love and support during this difficult time.
