Wesley Edward “Ed” Driskill, 90, of Rustburg died peacefully on Friday, March 29, 2019. During his last days he was surrounded by love from family and friends. He was born on July 1, 1928, in Gladys, Va. the son of the late Wesley Clarence “T” and the late Eula Mae Carwile Driskill. His sisters, Mildred Pack, May Driskill, Dorothy Davis, and Nell Maxey predeceased him.
Ed is survived by his wife of 67 years, Janice Bailey Driskill; sons, Wes (Rita) and Mac (Ann Faddis); daughters, LaVonne (Fred) Stanley and Dawn (Dennis) Laughlin; his grandchildren, Andrew (Jenny) and Cameron Johnson, Jade and Brooke Laughlin (Michal Lukowski), Casey (Ryan) Fiora, Logan Shorter, Natalie (Daniel) DeColli, Nicholas and Trent Driskill; and great grandson, Bridger Johnson. He is also survived by brothers, Ben (Sarah) and Wayne (Carol); and sister, Louise Williams; and by many loving and supportive cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, especially Carole Campbell Dierschow and Dawn Shorter who were just like daughters to him.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948 and then worked on the maintenance crew at Glamorgan/Griffin Pipe Foundry for 35 years. He retired at age 55 to enjoy many fun years of family and grandchildren time, anything on The Branch, watching sports, church and community activities, travel, beach trips, farming, gardening, eating cheesecake, and managing and clearing his land.
His family will miss his smile, generous, gentle, and fun spirit and building and repair skills and forever cherish our memories of a life well-lived. A memorial service celebrating his life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Diamond Hill Presbyterian Church, 1090 Mollies Creek Rd., Gladys. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
The family will also receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2019 at Diamond Hill Presbyterian Church.
