William Bentley Stadler (Ben), 79, of Lynchburg, peacefully passed away on Friday, January 9, 2015.
Ben was the son of the late Mildred and John Stadler of Roanoke Rapids, NC and was preceded in death by his twin brother, John W. Stadler of Richmond, VA.
He is survived by: his loving wife of fifty-one years, Edith Storey Stadler; his four children: Amy Rodriguez and her husband, Jorge of Charlotte, NC, Julie Coppage and her husband, Mark of Forest, VA, Catherine Wood and her husband, Henry of Lynchburg, VA, and John B. Stadler of Lynchburg, VA; seven grandchildren: Quintin Bentley Hutchins, Grace and Elizabeth Rodriguez, Caroline and Ellie Wood, and William and Maggie Coppage; and one sister, Shirley Lavindar of Martinsville, VA.
As a young man, Ben served the United States Navy and graduated from Virginia Tech in 1961. He enjoyed a successful career spanning fifty years in the health insurance industry before his retirement. Ben was a loving father, grandfather, and husband, as well as a loyal friend. He was an honorable man who lived a life based on principles, honesty, and love for his family. He was known to family and friends as “Gentle Ben” and certainly earned and lived up to that moniker. He truly never met a stranger and will long be remembered for his ready smile and genuinely happy demeanor.
The family will receive friends at the residence on Monday, January 12, 2015, from 5 until 7 p.m. A celebration of Ben’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at Holy Cross Catholic Church.
