Lynchburg

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of William “Bill” Cannon Jr, who left us on February 18, 2025, at the age of 66.

Born in Mt. Vernon, Alabama, on January 15, 1959, to William Cannon Sr. and Betty Cannon, Bill lived a life full of adventure, dedication, and passion.

From a young age, Bill loved sports and played football for E.C. Glass High School. After graduating, he answered the call to serve and joined the U.S. Navy. Following his time in the Navy, he found his way on the open road, working as a truck driver for many years until he was no longer able. He kept detailed journals of his travels and daily life, documenting the world as he saw it through his own eyes.

When he wasn’t on the road, Bill could be found taking care of the animals he loved so much, including his beloved cat Deborah and his dogs Buster and Sox. His favorite thing to do was sit in a small coffee shop and write poetry. He became a staple at Brookville High School Volleyball games (watching Aly) and could be heard above all yelling “GO BEES!”

A lifelong football and baseball fan, he was especially passionate about Alabama football—When the Crimson Tide played, Bill never missed a game!

He is survived by his brother, Joe Cannon, and his wife, Stephanie; his sister, Meg Cannon, and her wife, Mary Sue. He was a beloved uncle to his nephew, Joey Cannon, and his wife, Brittany, along with their daughters, Aly and Marley(Rosie); his niece, Jessica Cannon and Buddy, and their daughters, Harmony and Brielle; his niece, Catie, and her daughter, Caylee Mae; and his niece, Lindsey Watts and husband Ryker Watts. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Bill’s love for adventure, football, and his cherished animals will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Roll Tide!

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
