William “Bill” Lukens

William Parry (Bill) Lukens, 93, of Lynchburg, died November 28, 2012. He was the husband of Frances Gaddy Lukens. Born September 6, 1919 in Media, Pennsylvania, he was the son of William Penn Lukens and Ethel Adams Lukens.

 He is survived by his wife, Frances Lukens, his daughter, Cynthia Lukens Schoen, his son, David Lukens, and the children of his wife, Don Huffman, Kenneth Huffman, David Viar, Leah Viar and Vivian Hudson. In addition he is survived by many beloved grandchildren \"" Donnie Huffman, Patricia Fox, Connie Welch, Evan Coussoulos, Taeja Huffman, Andrew Schoen, Anna Schoen, Sophie Viar, Molly Viar, Dino Lirio, Roy Lirio, Froilan Lirio and Clarissa Lirio \"" several great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A special thanks to his caregiver, Billy Richardson.

 He was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Lukens Braumiller and her husband Richard Braumiller of Lynchburg; by his sister, Barbara Lukens Davis and her husband Robert Davis of California; and by the daughter of his wife, Mary Alice Huffman Coussolos of Virginia.

 William Lukens graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois. He then earned a Bachelor\"™s degree in accounting at the University of Illinois. In World War II he served as a Lieutenant in the Navy where he taught navigation, served as Assistant Navigator on the aircraft carrier Intrepid, then served as Captain of an LST in the South Pacific.

 After the war, Mr. Lukens earned an MBA from Harvard University. He worked as an accountant at Merck, as a Comptroller at Consolidated Vacuum Corporation and Consolidated Electrodynamics Corporation, and Chief Financial Officer of Oxford Laboratories. He served as Treasurer for Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynchburg for ten years.

 Bill and Frances Lukens first made their home in Sunnyvale, California, moving to 2100 Link Road in Lynchburg in 1984. They were married for 29 years and in love every moment of that time. Bill will be remembered for his sweetness, his stories, and his laughter. He treated everyone with love and acceptance. His large family was blessed by his presence.

 A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (1000 Langhorne Road, Lynchburg) on Saturday, December 1st, 2012 at 4:00 p.m., Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or Meals on Wheels.
